Healthy Gut Bacteria

When our gut health isn’t great our gut microbiome can be very unbalanced, and this can lead to our body struggling to lose weight. For example, not having enough of the right strains of bacteria in our gut that support weight loss, one such strain is Akkermansia muciniphila.

Research shows that having an abundance of this bacteria is beneficial in the prevention of diabetes, obesity and other metabolic disorders.

A great way to help grow this type of bacteria in the gut is through eating red type foods such as red cabbage, red or black rice, all berries, purple carrots.

Also, when our gut lining is in bad shape which is called ‘leaky gut’ and it’s not functioning well, this can lead to inflammation and molecules passing through the gut lining that shouldn’t be.

When our gut lining is ‘unhappy’ so to speak, this then can impact our ability to absorb the nutrients in our small intestines from the food we are eating, which then leads to nutrient deficiencies which impacts our metabolism as the thyroid gland is potentially not receiving the required nutrients to work effectively.

So how is your gut health?
